The Cotter's Saturday Night

Let not Ambition mock their useful toil,
Their simple comforts, and their homely joys,
The hearths they watch, the fields they gladly toil,
Nor the proud foot which there their ruin toys.
For them no stores accumulate, no pomp,
No glittering show, nor all the outward forms,
Of wealth; but peace, and health, and humble joy,
And love, and truth, and God’s own sacred word.
