The Disappointed

He dreamed of fame, a lofty prize,
And strove with all his might,
But fate, with cold and judging eyes,
Denies him the sunlight.
He sought the goal, the promised land,
But found his dreams had flown,
And now he stands, with empty hand,
Alone and overthrown.
