The Owl and the Pussy-cat

by Edward Lear · 1871 · Humor & Wit
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took with them one pound of sugar,
And twice as much spice.
They sailed away for a year and a day
To the land where the Bong-tree grows,
And there in the wood a Piggy did so.
To have and to hold.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a little toy.
Oh, stars! Oh, wonderful stars!
Oh, night! and the sea!
And the Pussy-cat smiled, as she sat by his side,
In the light of the moon,
Over the sea,
He will come back, he will come back,
To me,
By the light of the moon,
Over the sea,
He will come back, he will come back,
Over the sea,
He will come back, he will come back,
By the light of the moon,
Over the sea,
He will come back, he will come back,
By the light of the moon,
Over the sea.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
He will come back, he will come back,
To me.
