Joanna's Rock

Joanna's Rock, by Derwent's side,
Where once a maiden sat,
And watched the waters ebb and tide,
And dreamed of this and that.
She sang a song, both sweet and clear,
A melody of love,
And banished every doubt and fear,
Like a gentle cooing dove.
But now the rock, alone doth stand,
And bears no trace of her,
As if by time's relentless hand,
Her memory did blur.
