The Poet's Plea

by Sara Teasdale · 1869 · Beauty & Art
Oh, grant me, Muse, a simple strain,
A melody both clear and true,
To ease the heart, to soothe the pain,
And paint the world in skies of blue.
No grand design, no epic flight,
But humbler themes, a gentle lay,
To bring a moment of delight,
And chase the weary world away.
